Vic: Man seriously injured while rock climbing

A 27-year-old man has been seriously injured when he was hit by a falling rock while
climbing a mountain in the Grampians National Park.

An ambulance spokesman says the man was roped to a group of rock climbers while scaling The
Crank at Mount Stapylton, in Victoria's west.

The man had climbed about 60 metres up the 150 metre mountain when he was struck by the
falling rock at about 2.30pm.

The force of the impact fractured the man's ribs, punctured his abdomen and left him with
head injuries.

The man was flown by air ambulance to the Alfred Hospital where he is in a serious but
stable condition.
