NSW: Man to appear over Wee Waa rape

New South Wales police say more information on the rape of a 91-year-old woman will
be given when a man appears in court today.

RITA KNIGHT, now 93, was raped by a man who broke into her home in Wee Waa (pron: wee
wore), in the state's north-east, in the early hours of New Year's day 1999.

Barwon police say a 44-year-old local labourer turned himself in to Wee Waa police
late yesterday.

The man was interviewed for six hours.

His charges incluse aggravated sexual assault inflicting bodily harm, and aggravated
breaking and entering using violence.

The man was kept in custody overnight and is due to appear in Moree Local Court this morning.

The man's arrest came 10 days after most men of the tiny cotton town volunteered for DNA tests.
