NT: NT govt refuses to say what super changes will be

Northern Territory Chief Minister CLARE MARTIN has refused to say whether the territory
will follow the federal government and scrap its generous superannuation scheme for new
politicians.

Before winning the 2001 election, Ms MARTIN promised to bring politicians' super into
line with community expectations.

A review into the scheme was launched 18 months ago.

Ms MARTIN says she doesn't want to preempt proper procedure by prematurely releasing
the recommendations of the review.

She says the report will be passed onto parliamentarians for consideration in the next few weeks.

Legislation on superannuation changes will be introduced into NT Parliament later this year.

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD announced yesterday he would scrap the federal politicians'
scheme -- agreeing to changes proposed by the ALP.

And he's called on state Labor governments to follow suit.
