NSW: Australia leaning towards private education - judge=2

Justice Kirby's comments come during an ongoing debate over the federal government's
funding of private schools.

A bill changing the way private schools are funded was passed last December, sparking
attacks on the government from teacher unions and parent groups for what they regard as
inequities in the new funding formula.

Australian Education Union federal president Denis Fitzgerald accused the government
of having an inverted sense of priorities in March, saying 68 per cent of school funding
was going to the 30 per cent of schools in the private sector.
