FED:Winners and losers in ministry reshuffle

Winners and losers in the new Gillard ministry.



WINNERS:

* Greg Combet: Heads up super ministry of climate change, energy efficiency, industry
and innovation.

* Tanya Plibersek: Elevated to cabinet as health minister. Previously human services
and social inclusion minister.

* Mark Butler: Retains mental health and ageing and promoted to cabinet.

* Nicola Roxon: Becomes the nation's first female federal attorney-general.

* Bill Shorten: Goes from assistant treasurer to workplace relations portfolio and joins cabinet.

* Jason Clare: New home affairs and justice minister, a step up from a junior defence ministry.

* Mark Arbib: Becomes assistant treasurer and minister for small business; keeps his
role as sports minister ahead of the 2012 Olympics.

* Julie Collins: Tasmanian MP promoted to the ministry to look after community services,
indigenous employment and economic development, and the status of women. Previously a
parliamentary secretary.



LOSERS:

* Kim Carr: Dumped from cabinet. Takes on manufacturing portfolio in outer ministry.

* Nick Sherry: Retires to the back bench.



SIDEWAYS

* Chris Evans: Retains his seniority as government leader in the Senate, but plays
second fiddle to Greg Combet as tertiary education, skills, science and research minister.

Stays in cabinet.

* Robert McClelland: Dumped as attorney-general to become emergency management and
housing minister. Stays in cabinet.
